Our trans counselling service is free, confidential, and run by a trans counsellor. Following an initial assessment to determine whether counselling is the right thing for you at the moment, you may be offered up to 12 sessions which would be at the same time each week, and with the same counsellor.
Although we are a service for people who identify as trans, non binary or questioning, the reason for coming to counselling can be absolutely anything and does not have to revolve solely round your gender identity. The service exists to provide a safe space for people who may find it difficult or daunting to access counselling from other services. In responses to the current Covid-19 pandemic, all our counselling sessions will be provided online or over phone call.
We cover any area, as long as clients are able to make sessions at our office in Ladbroke Grove (W10 6DZ) or our other base in Clapham Junction (SW11 2LN).
If you would like to be seen within our service, or simply want to find out more about this service, please email counselling@spectra-london.org.uk for more information.
Once we have received your registration form you will be invited for an initial assessment and then, depending on the outcome of that assessment will eventually be allocated a regular counselling slot for which the waiting time is around six months from the date we receive your registration form.
In the meantime, if you fear you may be at risk of seriously harming yourself or another person please contact your GP or go to the Accident and Emergency department at your nearest hospital which is accessible 24 hours per day.

Due to unprecedented demand on our counselling services this year, we have taken the decision to temporarily close our waiting list for trans counselling for three months from 5pm on the 18th December 2020 until 18th March 2021. As we take steps to clear current assessments and registrations to bring our waiting list up to date, we regret that we will be unable to accept any new registrations in this period.
Below you can find two PDFs comprising a list of alternative options for free and/or low-cost counselling and psychotherapy, and a separate resource pack with alternative sources of wellbeing support such as helplines, online forums and peer-support.
Spectra thanks you for your understanding and for bearing with us during this challenging time and we look forward to working with you in 2021.
Face-to-face counselling is available from our wheelchair-accessible offices in Ladbroke Grove. Online and telephone counselling is also offered. We are also offering occasional wellbeing workshops on a variety of issues for people of trans experience.
