For Trans Day of Visibility 2024, members of Spectra’s Art Therapy Groups have chosen again to share some of the images that they have made as part of their therapeutic journeys to show the creativity in our community to a wider audience. Images include paint, digital art, pencil and pen drawings, and collage. They were made between May 2023 and January 2024
Images were made thinking about themes relevant to the trans community such as self care and support, community and belonging, self identity and self esteem, and embodied emotions and emotional regulation.
Here’s what some group members have said about the art making process:
“I learned how to think about difficult and complex themes. Usually, words betray me, and I cannot explain my feelings well, but art-making gave me the time and space to consider them and express them in a new way.”
“I feel like i now have a way to deal with my mental health through art, its got me back into doodling which i really appreciate.”
“Sometimes I have negative feelings that I cannot share with anyone else, but here, the arts and words they brought resonated with me quite often.”
