Continuity of HRT Care: A Practical Guide for GPs

October 3, 2025 10:00 am

Published by Anna Tokareva

Continuity of HRT Care is essential for the wellbeing of trans patients. This practical guide for GPs outlines ethical prescribing practices and offers actionable advice to support trans individuals through prescription gaps in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Developed by Spectra, this resource draws on frontline casework and lived experience to help medical professionals provide inclusive, affirming care.

Why continuity of HRT care matters

Interruptions in HRT can have serious physical and psychological impacts on trans patients. GPs play a critical role in ensuring consistent access to medication, especially during transitions between services, changes in address, or administrative delays. Ethical prescribing is not just best practice—it’s a matter of health equity.

In the guide you will find:

  • Real-world casework from Spectra’s trans health support team
  • Testimonies from trans individuals navigating prescription gaps
  • Practical steps for GPs to maintain continuity of care
  • Ethical considerations in prescribing HRT
  • Contact information for further support and data transparency
