EHRC Trans Guidance Opposition: Spectra Joins Open Letter Against Proposed Changes
Spectra has joined dozens of UK businesses and organisations in signing an open letter opposing the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) proposed changes to its Code of Practice. This collective action is part of the growing EHRC trans guidance opposition. It urges the UK government to reject guidance that would mandate the exclusion of trans people from gendered spaces and services.
The Trans+ Solidarity Alliance and Safe Space Bristol coordinated the letter which addressed to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade and the Minister for Women and Equalities. It warns that the EHRC’s draft guidance could effectively enforce a “trans bathroom ban”. It will also compel businesses to discriminate against trans customers and staff, and exposing them to legal risk.
Spectra stands in solidarity with trans communities and supports this urgent call to action. We affirm that inclusion and fairness are non-negotiable values; that trans people must be able to live, work, and access services without fear or exclusion.
The proposed EHRC changes follow a Supreme Court ruling that redefines “legal sex” as sex assigned at birth. This shift threatens to severely restrict trans people’s access to public life and essential services.
This guidance must not be allowed to quietly pass. We urge other organisations to sign the letter and push against this proposal.
