Amit Shokeen

Amit is the HIV Peer Support Coordinator at Spectra, covering South West London and Outer North West London. He works alongside people living with HIV, and their loved ones, helping them connect with others who understand their experience and build the confidence to navigate everyday challenges, from health and housing to benefits and wellbeing. He leads Spectra’s team of HIV Peer Support Workers, and is currently building a fuller peer support offer across both areas, including group support, one-to-one peer support, social and cultural activities, and peer mentoring.

He believes strongly in support that starts with listening, and in building services around what communities actually need rather than what’s easiest to deliver. He works closely with local clinics, community organisations and venues to make sure people can find their way to the right support, whichever door they come through, and is particularly focused on reaching communities who aren’t always well served by mainstream services, including South Asian communities across Ealing, Harrow and Hillingdon.

He is committed to delivering a high-quality, well-organised service, and is always looking for practical ways to improve how support reaches the people who need it, whether that’s a new group, a stronger partnership, or a simpler referral pathway.

Outside of work, he loves to travel. He’s a self-confessed history buff, and there’s nothing he enjoys more than exploring a new place through its history and culture, uncovering the stories behind the sites and communities he visits along the way.
