Spectra is proud to stand alongside more than 140 LGBTQ+, feminist, and human rights organisations by signing an open letter calling on Members of Parliament (MPs) to protect and strengthen trans inclusion across the UK. Coordinated by the Trans+ Solidarity Alliance, the letter highlights the increasing challenges trans and gender‑diverse people face, as well as the growing legal pressures placed on organisations that continue to uphold inclusive practice.
Across the country, service providers, community groups, and employers are facing costly legal threats simply for maintaining long‑standing trans‑inclusive policies. As the letter outlines, this climate of “anti‑trans lawfare” not only threatens the wellbeing of trans people but also undermines organisations committed to equality. Despite overwhelming public support for inclusive services, such as the 86% of respondents in the City of London’s recent consultation who backed continued trans inclusion at the Hampstead Heath swimming ponds, many organisations are being pushed into difficult positions amid legal ambiguity.
The coalition is calling on MPs to urge the Minister for Women and Equalities and the Prime Minister to defend the Equality Act as it has always been understood: with inclusion as the norm, and exclusion as the rare exception. The letter also asks the Government to ensure that equalities guidance remains workable, protects human rights, and supports organisations who choose to remain proudly inclusive.
At Spectra, we believe that everyone deserves to access services without discrimination or judgement. Our participation in this collective effort reflects our ongoing commitment to creating spaces where trans and gender‑diverse people can live authentically.
Together, we are stronger and together, we will continue to fight for inclusion.
