For National Testing Week 2026, Spectra organised day day of workshops in Brent. The workshops aimed to provide information around HIV, the importance of prevention and testing, including how to support folks living with HIV.
In the first part of the day, we provided an introduction to HIV/AIDS, including the impact of stigma, the importance of testing, as well as prevention methods, such as PrEP, PEP, and condoms. Our aim is to combat misinformation and to encourage attendees to champion their learning in their day-to-day lives.
In the second part of the day, we discussed in more detail what support exists for people living with HIV, and raised awareness about living with HIV, to further reduce stigma and discrimination within our communities. We provided concrete examples of positive support for people living with HIV for community members to utilise outside of the workshop, with speakers including Spectra staff members with lived experience.
A representative from the London HIV Prevention Programme (LHPP), a city-wide initiative to reduce new HIV diagnoses and promote sexual health, was part of the programme, discussing where London is in our current efforts to combat HIV and stigma surrounding it.
