Dr Kamilla Kamaruddin

Kamilla (she/her) is originally from Malaysia.  She studied medicine in Belgium, qualifying as a Doctor and coming to the UK following three years working in the biggest government hospital in Kuala Lumpur. Kamilla left Malaysia because of the government’s hostility towards trans and LGBT+ people, especially around gender identity.

Kamilla has been a GP in England for the past 20 years, and having worked as a principal GP in East London is a passionate advocate for trans health, raising trans awareness and improving health care for trans people.

She has authored numerous articles, presented posters about leadership, healthcare in general and for trans people, and has spoken at various events in the UK about leadership, mentoring future generations, improving cancer screening for trans people, raising trans awareness and access to health care.

Kamilla was awarded Inclusivity Award Tower Hamlets GP Summit 2018, finalist GP of the year 2018 Pulse Magazine and RCGP Inspire Award 2019.
She is also a Trustee, Live Through This and a Primary Care Network Clinical Director in Tower Hamlets, London.
