What it offers
The ALEX project has been created BY SWers, FOR SWers. ALEX stands for Advocate with Lived EXperience. We work with current or former sex workers who are based in the UK.
As current and former SWers ourselves, we understand how problematic it can be using services run by people outside of the community. Stigma, privacy issues, and a desire to ‘save’ us from our work are just some of the things we can come up against, whilst trying to access basic things like healthcare and supplies. By asking to speak to ALEX when making contact with a Spectra service, you will be directed to a member of the SW community.

Peer support and guidance
Peer support can be emotional, practical, or knowledge-based support from someone who has the same lived experience as you. The ALEX team is made up of current and former SWers. So you know the person you're speaking to understands the unique challenges faced within the industry and is supporting you with respect and understanding.
Whether housing, benefits, wellbeing, sexual health, DV or substance issues - we offer support on a wide range of topics, big and small, so just reach out! You can have peer support conversations with the ALEX team during outreach sessions, or by phone or email, without giving us any personal details.

Ask4Alex is a codeword you can use to request health and safety services specifically for sex workers. We have ALEX team members who can translate into Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin. Other staff can also provide Tagalog translations. Contact us by emailing askalex@spectra-london.org.uk
