Spectra began 30 years ago in response to the HIV crisis, led by people whose needs were being overlooked and underserved. Three decades on, our work continues to centre people living with HIV, LGBTQ+ communities, sex workers, and others who face significant barriers to healthcare and wellbeing support. Over the years, our core purpose has remained the same: to offer practical, non-judgemental support rooted in confidentiality and lived experience.
Our 30th year is a moment to reflect on that legacy, and to look ahead. Throughout the year we'll be bringing people together, sharing stories from Spectra's history, and creating opportunities to help sustain our services into the future. We'd love for you to be part of it.
To launch our 30th year, we are starting a fundraising campaign over July (the month when Pride parades truly take place in London!) to support our work for the year and beyond. We are asking our followers and supporters to donate £1 per day for 30 days (or £30!) or sign up to our monthly support scheme. Spectra is funded only through finite-term grants, and in order to secure the longevity of our services, we are reaching out for your support.
Thank you for being part of Spectra’s wider community. If our work matters to you, or if you’ve ever benefited from our support, a donation helps us keep our services going into the years ahead.
P.S. If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing these news with someone who might find our services useful is also a great way to support us.
