Ben Vincent (they/them) is Research Coordinator for the Trans Learning Partnership, a collaborative project involving four community representatives, two academics, and four agencies that deliver services directly to trans and non-binary people: Spectra, Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence, and the LGBT Foundation. Ben joined Spectra in June 2021.
Following an undergraduate degree in Biological Natural Sciences and a Master’s in Gender Studies, Ben completed their PhD in Sociology at the University of Leeds in 2016, looking at non-binary gender identity negotiation in relation to LGBTQ communities and medical practice. Ben is author of the books Transgender Health: A Practitioner’s Guide to Binary and Non-Binary Trans Patient Care (Jessica Kingsley, 2018), and Non-Binary Genders: Navigating Communities, Identities, and Healthcare (Policy Press, 2020). They have also co-edited the collections Non-Binary Lives (Jessica Kingsley, 2020) which was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award, and TERF Wars: Feminism and the Fight for Transgender Futures (Sage, 2020). Ben has also published peer-reviewed articles on a wide range of trans-related subject matter in journals including Psychology & Sexuality, The British Student Doctor Journal, The bmj, Sexualities, International Journal of Transgender Health, and The Sociological Review.
