HIV support services “plug the gap” left by wider funding cuts
There is no doubt the effect funding cuts to HIV services are having.
Last week a woman walked in to Spectra’s office in Ladbroke Grove, desperate for someone to talk to and a safe space. Let’s call her Susannah. She is living with HIV, is of trans experience and has been dealing with persistent transphobia from neighbours. The HIV counselling service she used to access has been cut for the borough she lives in.
On average cuts of 28 per cent in spending on HIV support services between 2015 and 2017 have been reported, with some areas losing support entirely…………
